Evilution

1 Timothy 6:20 “O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you.  Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge.”

I have a 9 year-old daughter who constantly amazes me with her insight and sometimes just the way God uses her to get me out of my box in my view of things.  She is constantly writing me notes and on one thing she scribbled the word ‘evilution’ and I had to laugh out loud.  I told her how to spell it correctly to pass the test but commended her on her error because it was more on target than she realized.

The true evilution of the church and of believers is how we tolerate knowledge of man over the infinite all-powerful, triune Creator of God and thinking that He is not capable to communicate accurately and clearly what He says in His Word.  We take the reasoning of finite man, science, and that of men who stand against God and allow them to push theories and question His Word.  We allow theories to be taught in schools and think it won’t harm our children.  It is again satan saying, “Did the Lord God really say…” (Gen 3:1)  The demon’s methods have not changed; we just become more and more indifferent to evil.  It is the little compromise in everything we allow to lead us astray.  We don’t just wake up and fall into a pit of sin; it starts with a small compromise and becomes easier each day as we grow away from our Lord.

We evolved in so many areas and see it as gray or insignificant in the big picture.  Work time wasted; a little view of pornography on our computers or phones; a quick affair or emotional involvement outside our spouse; Saturday night at the bar and Sunday in the pew; ‘white’ lies; dirty joke to get a laugh on Monday morning after raising our hands in worship the day before; dressing suggestively or in away the draws attention to our bodies in a lustful way; letting the cares of this world overshadow His place in our lives…  All of these things are readily acceptable and tolerated in the world today yet God’s Word is clear on each of these issues and more.  Let us encourage and challenge each other to be set apart, different than those in the world.  Let us not grieve His Holy Spirit by conforming to the world and its standard.  Let’s call Him Lord and do what He says over what our flesh desires.

2 Timothy 2:21 says if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
We must be deliberate and intentional in our choice to be holy, to serve and worship the Lord Jesus Christ.  Let us not be ashamed of Jesus and His Word so He will not be ashamed of us.  (Mark 8:38)  His word is infallible from beginning to end.  The Lord is coming back and the time is drawing near.  Are you working for Him or will you be ashamed at His coming?  Does your life reflect Him as Lord?  There is nothing that cannot be forgiven and He can change the hearts and ways of the worst sinners.  He is able.  He died a horrible cruel death in our place.  Shouldn’t we be passionate in our living for His glory?

Heavenly Father, take away our unbelief; increase our faith in You and Your Word. Ignite a passion in Your people to be set apart in this world.  Examine our hearts and cleanse us.  In Jesus Name, AMEN.
