Give it up!

It is so easy to look around at the shape of the world, the things that seem so out of control (because they are), the breakdown of families, the government, the economy, the corruption. We could fill up pages of things that are both heartbreaking and wrong…what to do?  It is so easy to grieve these things, give up, and do nothing.  It’s too big, too much, too overwhelming.  We each have callings on our lives.  Both specific and general callings from God, responsibilities, and duties we are to do for our own good and for the benefit of the generations that follow.  Men are to love their wives sacrificially, be the spiritual leader, provider, and protector of their families.  Women are to teach the younger women, make a home, be a helpmeet, nurture, and raise our children.  We are all instructed to honor our parents, not to lie, cheat, steal, kill and so on.  These great and important things individually make a difference worldly.  These things may seem impossible but they are not.  We become who we should be when we choose to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.  When we do that, His Spirit enables us, empowers us to be like Christ.  He enables us to be the men and women He created us to be and most importantly, to raise the next generation of believers.

Take away the list of rules, the do’s and don’ts…  Honor God.  Pray for others.  Pray for your enemies.  Pray for wisdom.  Pray against the chaos.  Pray and ask the Lord what is it You have for me to do.  Then take that first step of obedience.  Walk it out.  It is not always easy, almost always it is the harder choice.  However, the more you choose His way, the stronger you become because His strength becomes your strength.  His will becomes your will.  Change of heart, change of the world starts with one.  The me.  The you.  The family.  The church.  The city.  The nation.  The world.

When the weight of the world, our hurts, our worries are too much to stand, that is the time to kneel.  Oswald Chambers said, “Jesus Christ carries on intercession for us in heaven; the Holy Ghost carries on intercession in us on earth; and we the saints have to carry on intercession for all men.”

Pray.  That is where the battle will be won.

  1. Thanks for this reminder today, Melissa, that it's not about what we think or the words we say...it's about the walk we walk
